Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position following another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the club's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period such as this with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
